"Yea, remember that there is no other way nor means whereby man can be saved, only through the atoning blood of Jesus Christ, who shall come; yea, remember that He cometh to redeem the world."
"Wherefore, redemption cometh in and through the Holy Messiah; for He is full of grace and truth."
"And we talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophecy of Christ, and we write according to our prophecies, that our children may know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins."
No, the Book of Mormon does not replace the Holy Bible—it supports and complements it! Latter-day Saints revere the Holy Bible as the word of God and study it alongside the Book of Mormon. Together, these sacred texts testify of the divinity of Jesus Christ and of His gospel.
The Book of Mormon was given by God as “another witness” of Jesus Christ (see 2 Nephi 29:8) and helps clarify and reinforce the teachings found in the Holy Bible, especially those that may have been lost or misunderstood over time. Just as the New Testament adds to the Old Testament, the Book of Mormon adds to both, helping them all of speak with one voice: Jesus is the Christ.
The Bible is absolutely essential—it testifies of Jesus Christ and contains the foundation of His gospel. But the Book of Mormon is also a powerful witness of the divinity of Jesus Christ and serves a unique role in clarifying, supporting, and restoring truths that have been lost or misunderstood over time.
Rather than replacing the Bible, the Book of Mormon stands with it as another testament of Jesus Christ. It confirms biblical teachings, answers important questions (like the purpose of baptism and if little children need to be baptized), and strengthens faith in Christ through additional prophetic voices. Together, the Bible and Book of Mormon fulfill the principle taught in 2 Corinthians 13:1: “In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established.”
Latter-day Saints treasure both scriptures. The Book of Mormon deepens our understanding of God’s love, His covenants, and His dealings with all of His children—including those that lived in the ancient Americas.
Revelation 22:18–19 contains a powerful warning—but it’s important to understand its context. These verses refer specifically to the book of Revelation itself, not the entire Bible as a collection. At the time John wrote Revelation, the Holy Bible as we know it hadn’t yet been compiled. The books of the Holy Bible were written over centuries, and the process of gathering them into one volume happened long after John’s vision on Patmos.
Interestingly, similar warnings appear elsewhere in scripture—like Deuteronomy 4:2 and Proverbs 30:6. These don’t mean no more scripture would ever come afterward, but rather that we must treat God’s word with reverence and not tamper with what He has revealed.
Latter-day Saints believe that the Holy Bible is the word of God and cherish it deeply. We also believe God has spoken to His children in many nations and at many times (Hebrews 1:1). The Book of Mormon is another witness of Jesus Christ—written by ancient prophets on the American continent who, like the apostles in the New Testament, testified of the Savior and His gospel.
Rather than taking away from the Holy Bible, the Book of Mormon affirms and supports it—offering a second witness that Jesus is the Christ and that God still speaks to His children today.
Galatians 1:8 is a strong warning: “But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.” This scripture rightly reminds us to reject false teachings that contradict the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Latter-day Saints completely agree.
We believe that any teaching—no matter who delivers it—that contradicts the true gospel of Christ should be rejected. But that’s the key point: the Book of Mormon doesn’t teach “another gospel.” It teaches the same gospel found in the New Testament—that salvation comes only through Jesus Christ, by His Grace, through faith in Him and His Atoning sacrifice, and through choosing to truly follow Him, which includes choosing to repent and be baptized.
Far from replacing or contradicting the Holy Bible, the Book of Mormon supports it and clarifies key doctrines that have often been debated or misunderstood. It reaffirms that Jesus is the divine Son of God, born of a virgin, who suffered and died for our sins and rose again.
What Paul warns against is changing or corrupting the gospel of Jesus Christ—not against receiving further witnesses or scripture that support that same message. In fact, Paul himself hoped that “the word of the Lord” would “have free course, and be glorified” (2 Thessalonians 3:1). Latter-day Saints see the Book of Mormon as fulfilling that hope, testifying alongside the Holy Bible that Jesus is the Christ and that it is only through Him and His amazing Grace that we can be saved.
Yes—there is spiritual evidence as well as other kinds of compelling evidence worth considering.
First, the strongest evidence is spiritual. The Book of Mormon invites readers to come unto Christ and promises that anyone who sincerely reads it and asks God with real intent can receive a personal witness of its truth (see Moroni 10:4–5). Millions of people, including many Christians from various backgrounds, have read and sincerely prayed about the Book of Mormon and have felt the confirming power of the Holy Spirit that it is true.
But there’s also compelling historical, intellectual, and archaeological evidence worth considering:
Complexity and consistency: The Book of Mormon contains over 500 pages of detailed history, dozens of named individuals and places, and a sophisticated spiritual message—all miraculously dictated by Joseph Smith Jr. in under three months without any notes or revisions. Scholars have noted its internal consistency and literary structure as remarkable.
Ancient patterns: The book reflects ancient Hebrew literary forms (like chiasmus) and covenant patterns that Joseph Smith couldn’t have known about in 1829.
Archaeological and cultural parallels: While not "proof" in the way some might want, certain customs, names, and settings in the Book of Mormon align with what we now know about ancient American and Near Eastern civilizations—details Joseph Smith could not have known about or even researched in his day.
We will give you access to additional information about these and other compelling evidences for the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon after you have requested your free copy to be mailed to you (via Amazon).
Ultimately, the Book of Mormon isn’t meant to replace faith—it’s meant to deepen it. We invite sincere seekers to read it, pray about it, and judge it by its fruits (Matthew 7:20). Those who do often find that the greatest evidence of its truth is how it brings them closer to Jesus Christ.
